Choosing a martial arts program for your child is about much more than learning kicks, punches, or earning belts. Parents should look for a school that provides a safe environment, experienced instructors, age-appropriate classes, meaningful progress, and skills that help children outside the classroom.
At Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Eugene, our youth programs are designed around those priorities.
Real Self-Defense Without Teaching Kids to Be Aggressive
One of the biggest differences with Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is our approach to self-defense. Children learn how to recognize and avoid dangerous situations, use confident verbal boundaries, and protect themselves physically when necessary.
Because Jiu-Jitsu emphasizes leverage and control rather than striking, children can develop real self-defense skills without being taught that punching or kicking should be their first response.
Our philosophy is simple: We learn to fight so we never have to.
Programs Designed Specifically for Kids
Children shouldn't simply be placed into a smaller version of an adult martial arts class. At Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Eugene, our youth curriculum is organized by age, experience, and developmental level.
Our programs serve children ages 4–13, from young beginners learning through movement and Gracie Games to experienced students developing more advanced Jiu-Jitsu, leadership, and character skills.
Confidence That Goes Beyond the Mats
Learning how to defend yourself can change the way you carry yourself.
Our goal is to help students develop confidence, discipline, respect, patience, leadership, and responsibility. We want children to become more capable without becoming more aggressive.
As we like to say at our school:
Confident humans make kinder humans.
Authentic Gracie Jiu-Jitsu in Eugene
Not every Jiu-Jitsu program is the same. Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Eugene was Oregon's first Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Certified Training Center® and is Lane County's only Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Certified Training Center®.
Our students learn through the structured Gracie Bullyproof® curriculum and have access to Gracie University resources to reinforce what they learn in class.
See the Difference for Yourself
The best way to decide whether a martial arts school is right for your child isn't by reading a website—it's by experiencing the program.
Parents are welcome to visit, watch our classes, meet our instructors, and let their child experience Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Eugene with a free trial.
No previous martial arts experience is necessary.
